My Week

Weekly Recap (6.12.2020)

A Curse So Dark and Lonely (The Cursebreaker Series)

What I read: I read A Curse So Dark and Lonely. It is a sci-fi/fantasy retelling of the classic Beauty and the Beast story. I actually really enjoyed the book after I pushed through the beginning. The story follows Harper, a girl from our world, who is kidnapped and taken to a country in another dimension called Emberfall. Rhen, the cursed prince, has spent the last 200 years searching for someone to fall in love with him and break the curse that an evil magesmith (aka a witch) put on him after he spurned her. There is a lot of action and adventure throughout the book that is coupled with a possible love triangle, so it was right up my alley. **My only complaint was that it was slightly more gruesome of a story than I usually enjoy. Spoiler: In this story, the Prince turns into a monster that goes around killing people and is physically tortured (very gruesomely) multiple times by the enchantress that cursed him in the beginning.

Emma (15 years old) finished Poison, Dark, and Drowning.

Ben (8 years old) is reading Encyclopedia Brown

What I watched:  House Hunters International, Parks and Recreation, and Justified.

Blessings this week:

-The kids got haircuts. This is a blessing because I did not have to do it! **We did a buzz cut on Ben’s hair last month because it was going crazy and all of the salons were closed…and he was not pleased with the outcome…

-Our humidity dropped big time after the remnants of the tropical storm blew through earlier in the week. **This is huge for Alabama!

-Dell finally started to sell computers again, so we ordered two for my husband and my daughter. **Trying to find a computer over the past three months has been impossible.

-Used credit card reward points to buy one of the computers. Sweet!

Something I look forward to next week:

-Emma’s 16th birthday!!!!!!

Something I was happy to accomplish this week:

-I finally renewed my driver’s license online. I have been driving with an expired license for the past two months due to the shutdown and was living in fear of being pulled over (I am a worrier) **FYI: You can renew your license online and just use the same picture that is already on the card. It was both very easy and slightly scary. Someone could easily order a driver’s license using someone else’s information and they would never know…

-Registered Emma for dual enrollment classes for the Fall. I was very happy to do this early because there is speculation that many students will be taking community college courses this year to avoid paying full price tuition (at expensive colleges) while they are having to live at home due to the possible (and some may say inevitable) second wave of Covid-19. Brace yourselves…

-Oh and we managed to survive another week in this crazy world as gracefully as possible. #Blessthismess

Two of my favorite posts from the week:

Image may contain: outdoor, text that says 'What a confusing time to be a pirate. X FUNNY THOUGHTS AND JOKES'

Image may contain: text that says 'Whenever you're in a position to help someone, be grateful. That's God answering someone's prayer through you. SOUTHERN PLATE'

Stay safe and try to keep on laughing!
