What I read: This week I am reading The God of the Hive by Laurie R. King. This novel was the follow up to The Language of Bees that I read last week. I have never read a book that seemed more like a “Part Two” to the previous book before. The author cleverly made the ending of The Language of Bees end abruptly, much like a cliffhanger on a television show, and then dove back into The God of the Hive right where she left off. I have been enjoying getting to see a different side of Sherlock Holmes in this series as well. My favorite part is seeing how Holmes would be as a husband….hilarious!
Emma (15 years old) is rereading The Hunger Games trilogy.
Ben (8 years old) is reading Stink Moody Shark Sleepover, Henry and Ribsy, and Farmer Boy. **I cannot recommend the Stink Moody series enough. We have been reading and rereading all of the books again and again at bedtime.
What I watched: I am currently watching Season 10 of Murdoch Mysteries and catching up on the latest season of Grantchester on Prime.
Ways I was blessed this week:
-My birthday was last Friday, so a sweet friend from co-op had my favorite soda waiting on me in our classroom when I arrived. She also wrote “Happy Birthday” on the white board. Thank you Ginger for being so thoughtful:)
-My mother dropped me off a goody bag of treats for my birthday and watched my son many days this week while I worked at the church.
Things I learned:
-Ben had to write a report on ladybugs for school so I learned a lot of cool facts too. Lady bugs are really Lady Beetles. They come in many different colors. Lady bugs can eat up to 5,000 aphids in their lifetime. Also, their bright colors and spots are meant to deter predators from eating them by proclaiming them as something that tastes bad.
-While playing reverse charades at youth group may have seemed like a good idea at the time, it wasn’t. Having so many people knowing what the word was quickly led to chaos and made it too easy for the teams to cheat.
-How to jumpstart a car battery…good times…
Something I was happy to accomplish this week:
Spring has sprung in north Alabama! To celebrate we cleaned out the woodstove and put away all of the items that go along with it. I forget every year how much soot and dust accumulates on everything due to the wood stove, so next I have to dust and mop the floor….
Funny things that happened:
-One day when Ben was exceptionally bored, he exclaimed, “My life is just not worth living anymore!” and then promptly fell facedown onto the couch and huffed.
-The corona virus is definitely not funny, but these memes cracked me up:)

Stay safe!
